Plasma vs. LCD

Before you make a decision on buying TV, you need to know that plasma and LCD are not the or nearly the same thing, they both have very distinct strengths and weaknesses.

As a rule, a plasma TVs display higher contrast and track movement better, while LCDs show a brighter picture at the expense of smoother movement tracking and contrast. Unlike LCDs, plasma models still suffer from screen burn, which leaves persistent marks on your screen if you have static images displayed for extended periods of time. On the up side, plasma TVs tend to be larger and wider than equivalent LCD variations.

So when looking at plasma TVs in a store or online, do not think that just because the TV has a wide screen it will automatically have the picture quality you seek. And remember that price and brand are not the determinative factors to picture quality. There have been cases that cheaper models outperforming their expensive counterparts.
