HTC Evo 4G vs. iphone 4
Smartphones could be defined as cell phones that are no longer limited to making voice calls. This category includes devices such as the BlackBerry, the HTC, the Razr, the iPhone and the Palm Treo. Think of these devices as little computers in your pocket that can run software, play media, connect to the Internet, as well as make calls. And the competition on the Smartphones market is quite hard today. Notably between Apple and HTC (respectively 15% and 10% of the Smartphones market) who recently released their last weapons named Iphone 4 for Apple and Evo 4G for HTC.
As a quick overview, we can say that they’re both great devices. But we will try to find out in which ways.
Fisrt, let’s take the design of both. Let’s begin with the Iphone. The Iphone is mostly made with glass and metal. It’s very nice looking, has a good shape, and feel very good when you hold it on your hands. You can feel that it’s a robust device even though the exposed glass on both sides makes it look fragile. The Evo 4G is a nice looking device too. You can see that it’s mostly made with plastic, but it feels robust when you have it in your hands though. As much as the Iphone. The Iphone is a bit lighter (4.8 oz.) compared to the HTC (6 oz.) but it’s no big deal when you have it in your hands or in your pocket.
The most significant difference between both is the screen. The HTC has a huge 4.3 inches screen and the Iphone a reasonable 3.5 inches. The HTC offers a huge screen with bright colors and a nice display. But the Iphone’s diplay. In fact, the Iphone’s resolution is better (960*640) compared to the HTC (800*480). A higher resolution for a smaller screen gives you a very sharp display with a better definition. But it’s not really a big deal, the Evo is certainly passable for viewing outdoors and wonderful indoors. Coming down to a matter of preference: size vs. quality. The large screen of the HTC could be uncomfortable for people with little hands compared to the Iphone. Oherwise, it fits your hand very nicely.
After the design and the screen, let’s talk about the camera. Well, the HTC has higher resolutions camera in both front and back on the phone (8MP in the rear and 1.3MP in the front) compared to the Iphone (5MP in the rear and VGA in the front). In terms of photos and videos quality the Iphone quality is better, even though the HTC has a higher definition camera. It is mostly thanks to the higher resolution of the screen. And for the Video call, the quality is quite the same, there is no big difference. The image is clear and sharp for both.
Both devices have a long lasting batery considering the capabilities of them. Meanwhile, the iPhone has an improved battery over the already strong 3GS, and can fairly handily beat the EVO on both standby and active use time. Then again, the Evo has a user-replaceable battery if you want to pack a spare. The Iphone offers two capacity storage. One at 16GB and one at 32GB. In the other hand, the HTC offers a 8GB that you can add to a Micro SD of 32GB. But the fact is that, in the HTC device, you have to remove the battery to manipulate the Micro SD card. The Iphone’s memory is integrated in the phone and well synchronised.
The HTC is using the 1Ghz Snapdragon to make the OS work, and the Iphone is using the A4 which is also used on the Ipad. So both are really powerfull. But it seems that the HTC is more comfortable with the multitasking. In fact, Iphone is not really doing multy tasking, it’s more like background services, task completion and fast switching between the apps.
So, as a conclusion, we could say that both phones are beasts. And if you have to pick one, you have to follow your heart and your tastes. Both have pros and cons. For example, you can use video calling even if you’re not connecting to the wifi, the HTC is the only one mobile on the market that cam connect to the 4G network, you can use it as a wifi spot but it kills the battery. And on the other hand, the Iphone has thousans of apps, but it’s price hurts a little bit.
So, it depends on your taste. But, whatever your choice, you won’t regret it.
